FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best roof for Florida homes?
The Guardian Roof System is engineered for Florida’s varied climate, offering lifetime durability, unmatched hurricane resistance, and insurance compliance. With an available 50 year leakproof warranty, owners of The Guardian Roof will rest knowing they are protecting want matters most - their loved ones and most valued belongings.
How long does a Guardian roof last?
The Guardian comes with an available 50 year lifetime warranty—you may never need to reroof. (If a cow lands on your roof, we can't warrant against damage from that type of impact).
Will my insurance company accept it?
Yes. The Guardian Roof system is designed to meet Florida insurers’ requirements and avoid non‑renewal due to roof age as with asphalt shingled roofs. You will also benefit financially on several levels with your insurance premiums. Savings gained from the secondary water resistant membrane, status as a Class IV hail resistant covering, and from being a metal roof.
Insurance is requiring replacement of my shingled roof every 10-15 years in Florida. Will the same be true of The Guardian Roof?
While many asphalt shingle manufacturers will warrant their products for up to 50 years, Florida insurance companies will require asphalt shingles be replaced every 15 years regardless of condition due to increased risk of tear-off and damage from storms. Not so with The Guardian Roof system. Confirmed insurability for 50 years with a recertification process after that from Florida's largest insurer.
Won't I lose cell phone reception with a metal roof?
No. Many factors play into cell phone and wi-fi reception including windows, distance to the nearest tower, obstructions between your location and the tower, and building materials. Studies show that cell reception can be impacted by roofing material. If you already have a weak cell signal in your home or business, a metal roof can make cell service difficult. This can easily be alleviated with a simple cell signal booster being placed in your home. Boosters cost between $150 - $600.
Are metal roofs noisy in rainstorms?
Yes and No. A typical metal roof on a barn with open purlins can be quite noisy during a rainstorm. Metal roofs installed over battens can also amplify the sound of rain. The Guardian Roof system is designed to be installed directly over the ice and water underlayment adhered to plywood or OSB sheathing. With the sound insulating properties of your home's insulation in the attic and the drywall separating the attic from your living space, you may be surprised to look out your window to find it raining.
Speaking of storms, aren't metal roofs more prone to lightning strikes?
No. studies by the Metal Construction Association, metal roofs are no more nor less likely to be struck by lightning than any other type of roofing material. A properties' height, size, and surroundings are a better predictor.
I've heard metal roofs are more expensive than asphalt shingles. Is that true and if so, how much more expensive?
The answer is both Yes, and No. Your initial investment in protecting what matters most to you with The Guardian Roof is going to be a larger one than with asphalt shingles. The long-term savings you will see with The Guardian Roof will far outweigh that initial investment. While each home is different, a typical ROI on The Guardian Roof is at the point of your second asphalt shingle reroof. That is 15 years in Florida. We have a great calculator that can help you feel confident in your decision to invest in your property with The Guardian Roof. Be sure to ask your MyGuardianRoof representative to share your personal ROI with you.
What makes The Guardian Roof better than other metal roofs?
As an engineered standing seam metal roofing system, The Guardian Roof is designed to stand alone. What we've developed has no equal.
-
Extreme weather resistance - The Guardian Roof can handle the most extreme weather, (See technical specs for independent test results). Most test results we've seen from other metal roofs test between 30-60% of the uplift performance of The Guardian.
-
Reduce cooling costs - The Patent Pending SolRSkin thermal radiant barrier can help reduce cooling costs between 5%-30%.
-
180 degree seam - While an additional step in the installation process for the craftsmen installing it, this adds to improved weather resistance.
-
True metal craftsmanship in installation. Most roofing companies simply install metal roofs with their shingle crew who has varied experience with metal if any at all. Our installers are dedicated metal craftsmen certified by MyGuardianRoof. They have completed large scale roofs for projects such as Nasa's booster fabrication center, Northrup Grumman's airplane hanger in Melbourne, and Lockheed Martin among many others.
-
Up to a 50 year warranty - with an industry leading leak proof warranty spanning up to 50 years, we're so confident in The Guardian Roof system that we've more than doubled the available term of other metal roofing systems.
-
Minimal maintenance - compared to an exposed fastener system where screws need hand tightening annually, and often need replacement between 8-10 years, The Guardian Roof uses hidden fasteners that require no tightening or replacement.
-
Sleek, modern aesthetics - with a 1" standing seam rib The Guardian is uniquely positioned to provide your home with a clean, modern appearance that fits with any style of building. Very few fabricators of metal roofing panels have access to this panel.
